It was a gorgeous little doeling! I was very pleased. And she has been a real personable little girl all week, a keeper.

Giselle the beautiful
July 28, 2008What sex is it?
July 28, 2008After five boys from my best does (all out of Lynnhaven bucks and my original does), I was dying to know what it was.
Delivery
July 28, 2008I got back from Emma’s doctor’s appointment to deliver Penelope’s next baby.
Frankie – 8 pounds
July 28, 2008While the leach field was being dug up, I had to take Emma for a physical for school. While I was gone, Penelope decided to give birth. My friend (and plumber supervising the leach field project) delivered this buckling.
Nothing happens without the turkeys’ approval
July 28, 2008While Sophie was giving birth, my leach field backed up from the cesspool to the house, requiring some emergency care. Luckily one of my goat share folks had a good contact and the excavator was working by 6:30 am. The area that failed was dug up and new pipe went in. The turkeys came down to inspect the work.
Monday morning babies
July 28, 2008Sophia started my Monday a week ago delivering two nice sized bucklings. I had gone out at 4:30 am to check Josephine’s new babies and she was doing nothing. I came out to milk at 5:30 am and she was pushing the first one out. Births have happened fast and smoothly this summer. Davis is on the left, Emery is on the right.
Sunday evening barn report
July 20, 2008Busy, busy, busy.
Farm customers have been in every day to see the new babies. And spending money while they are here!
Making chevre again with the excess milk.
Heat making the chickens lay less much to my customers dismay.
Selling excess vegetables to the goats share and egg customers, not what I had expected. Customers want me to band the turkeys so they can know which ones are theirs. (I’ll start taking deposits at the end of August, this has been a vast experiment and I wasn’t sure I would even have live turkey at this point.) Not sure how to make this work on a various levels…
Blueberried last night and got a gallon after an hour. I needed two, they are really coming in, but I got distracted into a lovely picnic and swim. Black Rock Forest is a special place. I am lucky to live in this place and have access to it.
Finally more baby goats
July 20, 2008After a long week of watching and waiting, Josephine gave birth in the new goat paddock to two bucklings. She did not lick them or do anything with them but they are fairly vigorous. Gabe took Bota and named him and dried him off and helped me idodine his cord. Dan reluctantly did the same with Calvin. Bota was 9 pounds, Cavin 10 pounds. Both are took four ounces but are chasing Josephine around the pen. I’ll put her on the stand with grain at 5 pm and try to put them on the udder then (with Gabe’s help).
Three more very pregnant does to go. Total count – three doelings, three bucklings.
