In between running Emma to SKS for her dance call and my required appearance at her dance recital an hour later, Giselle had Joseph. She obviously had been in labor for a few hours because I found a huge spot of amniotic fluid in the shed but something was wrong. I moved her into a birthing stall and donned gloves and felt two little hooves but no head. As I probbed deeper, still no head. Up to my elbow into her uterus, I found the head bent backwards towards the tail. This baby was not coming out unless I got the head forward. I pushed the hooves back in and rotated the body until the head finally moved forward. Then the baby came out and Joseph was born, thankfully unharmed from my manuvering. Giselle, a first time mother, took to him right away. I left Daniel in charge of observing the two of them bonding (giving him naming privilges in return) and ripped off my bloody clothes, threw on a dress and some lipstick and headed to the recital on time. Upon my return two hours later, I weighed Joseph and found he was a healthy 8 pounds. I gave him some colostrum with him largely rejecting the bottle which means he got some on his own while I was elsewhere, took some pictures and left Giselle and Joseph to bond for the night.
