Baby, it’s cold out there!

We have been waking up to temperatures in the low 20’s, the ground has finally firmed up and the animal water buckets have been frozen solid.  This morning we broke out the water heaters and exchanged out the regular bulbs in the chicken lights with some heat bulbs.  The woodstove is running constantly.  We are cutting and splitting firewood and doing the last of the outdoor clean-up before the snow comes.   If we have the time and energy, and now that we can move the tractor over the hardened ground,  we’ll spread last year’s composted manure in the rotational grazing paddocks to break down over the winter.  And we have some brush piles to burn, one definitely on the evening of the winter solstice.
